((OOC, I know this is jumping ahead in the time line a little bit, but I just need something to keep me busy until co-saga, shouldn't affect anyone else, nor throw off anything. If it is a problem I can edit.))
The first round of the tournament was over. Jinx had left Brian in his hotel room. Jinx dug his toes into the black sand of the beach as the sun simmered up out of the sea. Jinx let the salt spray of the surf wet his face. He remembered camping on the shores of his tribe's island back home. Jinx strecthed out his muscles and began moving purposefully, slowly moving through the paces of his basic moves. His spear was stuck in the sand a few yards further inland, safe from the grasp of the sea.
Jinx was deep in meditation when he heard the *clink* of a sword unlocked from its sheath. He kept moving through his exercises. He heard loose fitting clothes snap in the wind and foot turn, grinding the sand. No doubt a body shifting its weight into an attack. Jinx spun in the nick of time to put his shoulder deep into the chest of a shorter attacker who'd launched themselves into the air, lunging forward to skewer Jinx. Jinx fired a small ki burst into the assailant's chest causing them to fly backwards. In an explosion of ki he rushed towards his spear and grabbed it only to turn towards two ki balls which blasted into him.
Recovering quickly Jinx rushed towards his attacker, GALAX PHALANX, he screamed as a ki barrier formed around him. The attacker seemed flustered and fired multiple ki blasts, which all impacted on the shield but had little effect.
The attacker tried firing a large blast which only flowed around the surface of Jinx' ki barrier. Jinx coming from above focused the remaining barrier energy through his spear and fired the shot between the feet of his attacker. The explosion from the blast sent up a spout of sand and debris. The attacker flew backwards, landing hard on his back, but flipped upright almost immediately.
Jinx stood at the ready with his spear. The attacker was dressed in a raggy cloak. Jinx noticed rain that seemed to have started falling and the dark sky. Jinx couldn't see a face inside the dark hood of the cloak. Trying to speak he realized he had to shout above the wind.
"Who are you? Why have you attacked me?"
"You've gotten much stronger since the last time we sparred Jinx. In fact, the days when I could have beaten you in single combat have ended."
"Who are you?"
"They are coming Jinx, and I don't know what they want. I was deep in meditation when their darkness brushed my conciousness. It was then I saw your face and touched your spirit for the first time in years."
"For the last time" Jinx began charging up his ki, a purple, whispy aura forming around his body "who are you?"
The attacker threw back his hood. Jinx couldn't really see his face through the rain and darkness. Suddenly a lighting bolt struck the sea and in a flash Jinx saw the beared face of his old master, Montgomery.
But how, he died a year before I escaped Nanodan's pleasure planet...
Jinx felt light headed for a moment and shook it off. When his eyes came into focus he realized the rain had stopped and the storm completely cleared. He looked to his hand for his spear, it wasn't there. He looked behind him and it was stuck in the sand where he'd left it.
In a slight breathe one word breezed through his lips, "Montgomery..."
