Bones were piled up a mile high in a glorious glass house, and fire hydrants lined a green grassy road which led to a tall golden throne with purple cushions of the softest kind. Muffy, Ceres' dog, jogged down the grass road as crowds of people and dogs from all over cheered him on. He stopped at the throne and gave a doggy bow as a crown of silver bones was placed upon his head. As soon as the crown was lowered, there was a sudden crash of glass as it clattered to the floor. A gush of wind blew threw the hole in the house around a fuzzy intruder. The dark furred dog stood tall as his red eyes glowed fiercely and its dark cape swooshed about him in the wind.
Muffy looked up quickly at the intruder and growled menacingly. The intruder leapt at Muffy and knocked the silver crown to the ground. Muffy lunged at the dark dog and pinned him to the ground. The two wrestled, bit at each other, and fought for quite some time. Finally, Muffy overtook the dark intruder and jumped up and down in doglike triumph. A shower of doggie treats came down over him as the crowd cheered, and the silver crown of bones was once more placed upon his head.
As the motionless dark intruder was taken away, Muffy reclined on the unbelieveably soft cushioned throne, basking in his glory as his audience chanted his name in adoration. Just as he was enjoying being hand fed doggie treats by beautiful women, he blinked. It was all gone. Everything was gone. The marvelous glass house, the fire hydrants on the grassy road, the pile of doggie bones, the adoring fans.
Muffy's stomach rumbled and he groaned at the fact that his dream was over. He stood up, stretched, and continued on his exploration of the surroundings perhaps now in search of food of some kind, feeling a bit refreshed from his nap. His owner had aparently deserted him while he wasn't looking. But oh well. She would no doubt return for him eventually; he knew it would be nearly impossible for her to live without her dog for too long.
A blue-ish green pteranodon-like animal flew across the scorched sky. The last of its kind, it searched in vain for a mate. Hours and hours after this fruitless hunt, the animal became increasingly irritated. It gave up on any hopes for a family and decided to turn its hunt to food. This too, was a far-fetched hope in this practically deserted wasteland. Searching and searching for an incalculable amount of time, the animal had almost given up and set its decision on just dying when it spotted something in the distance. Excitedly it flew closer, distinguishing the moving speck as some sort of animal. The pteranodon-like creature shifted into attack mode, ready to kill its newly found prey. Speeding up, it drew closer to the furry animal it was in hopes of consuming very shortly.
Meanwhile, Muffy continued his search for a snack. He whimpered as he looked on ahead of him; it looked the same as it had for the past thirty-seven miles: dull, brown, dusty, not very snack promising. The lack of greenery made the dog a little nervous. In desparation he found a large rock and relieved himself there. Feeling much better, he scratched his ear with one of his back feet and sat on his haunches, wondering what to do next. This was a rather boring place for a dog. Nothing to chase, nothing to catch, nothing to bark at, nothing to eat.
Suddenly, Muffy's ears perked up. He heard a noise from off in the distance. He turned his head and saw a flying creature headed for him. Muffy yelped and started to run again. He looked back and saw that the flying animal was gaining on him. What was he to do?! The pteranodon-like creature was literally at Muffy's heels, nipping at them, trying to catch him in it's beak-like mouth. Muffy frantically racked his doggy brain for something to do to get away from this monster trying to eat him. A thought of his owner flashed through his mind calling out for him to do his Amorphous trick. That's it! He could do that! But without Ceres to tell him what to become, he wasn't sure if or how he could do it. Desparate to live, he imagined Ceres' voice crying out "Amorphous!" Suddenly, the surrounding area turned orange with large sparkly yellow polka dots and Muffy floated in the air for a moment, spinning around. As he finished a three hundred and sixty degree turn, he had transformed into the first thing that had come into his mind.
The pteranodon-like creature came to a screeching halt in mid-air at the colorful array the dog was in. Its eyes grew large, nearly popping out of its head, its mouth hanging wide open, twitching. In place of where its juicy looking meal had been, there was now a shiny, sparkling, brand-spanking-new toaster. Extremely confused at what had just happened and what this strange shiny object had done to its meal, the pteranodon-like creature screeched half out of irritation and half out of sheer dumb confusion. It hopped around the toaster but quickly flew off into the distance screeching out of starving terror when the gleaming metal kitchen appliance jumped up and started to shake.
Once he was sure the flying monster had left for good, this toaster with a brain gave another shake for good measure, hopped in a circle, and once again resumed the shape of a dog. His heart still pounding from this near-eaten experience, Muffy panted and walked quickly on shaky legs to find some shade to recover his nerves. What a day.
Oh! the droning sand and dirt! The bleak brownness of it all! The ground teetered under Muffy and the horizon in front of him twirled and twisted. If nature had provided him with screaming abilities, he would have pushed them to their limits.
Then, suddenly, he saw them. The trees. Glory be! Trees! A gorgeous grove of trees! Muffy bounded across the scorching ground towards them, so intoxicated by the sight that he could hardly keep himself together. Moving spastically, he gave a hoarse howl of joy as he neared the leafy majesties.
Amidst his speedy journey there, he stopped dead in his tracks. The trees, one by one, had sprouted almost human-like arms. Canine eyes widened in terror as the trees sprouted hideous grey fleshy legs and wasted no time in putting them to use. Muffy's legs frantically ran in place for two seconds before he wobbily shot off to avoid impending doom. The mutant trees followed at an alarmingly electric speed. Muffy skidded to a stop as a tree appeared in front of him. He turned to his left to escape it but was thwarted by another tree's appearance there. The trees continued this until the dog was completely surrounded.
Worn out from his wanderings and escape attempt, his brain switched into attack mode, too tired to be terrified. He growled fiercely and sounded a dog's signature call. There would be no barking up the wrong tree from this dog! He barked menacingly as he lunged for the first tree he saw. Despite that his bark was not louder than his bite, he missed the tree and the giant mutant plants quickly moved to encircle him again. This time, however, the circle was much tighter around him than before. Squinting his eyes angrily, he paused and looked dramatically from left to right, moving only his eyes. The trees began to close in on him, waving their strange arms and disgusting legs as they started to wail. If this was to be the end of Muffy, he would go out fighting like a true dog! Pulling back his lips, he flashed his sharp teeth at his final foe.
Giving one last howl, Muffy charged at the most horrifying tree of the moving grove. He sailed through the air and as he plunged through the tree he felt drenched with water. Is this what it's like for a dog to die? He howled again as he hit the ground but his death cry was cut short by a rather hard object pelting him in the head. He shook his head and refocused his colorblind eyes.
"You crazed animal!" said a messy old man accompanied by a shopping cart. "You got rabies or something??"
Muffy looked at the man and whimpered.
"Psychotic canine. Why, I've seen many a strange sight in my day, but this probably beats most! Crazy dog jumping and howling and biting at the air. You'd almost think you's was hallucinatin'! If it's even possible for a dog to do so. Heh hehh." The old man grinned and kicked up some dirt. "Well, how's about a crazy dog and a crazy old man pair up together, eh? We'd make quite a team, you and me, lil pup! Whaddya say? Can't say no, CUZ I'VE GOT WATER!!!!!!"
Muffy, hearing the word he craved, leaped up and ran panting over to the old man. Ceres had aparently deserted him, so this seemed like a good alternative as far as he was concerned in his current state. Besides, he recognised this man from his crazy encounter shortly after he and Ceres had arrived in this ungodly barren wasteland. Muffy licked the old man's face as he bent down, trying not to break his back.
"Woohoo! I gots me a dog!" the old man jumped up and ran alongside Muffy. He hopped in the air to one side and clicked his heels together. "Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? Come on, doggie! Lets git us some water before we start hallucinatin' together."
And with that, the pair sauntered off into the distance with their shopping cart full of who knows what in pursuit of the old man's stash of water. What would Ceres think of this when she found her dog again? Muffy shrugged off the thought for the moment: this man was kooky like him and had water to boot!
