Zammy returned to Roosland with a heavy heart. Walking through the city of Roosopolis in his brand spanking new white and gold Royal Mohawk armour, he contemplated the day's proceedings alone, having dismissed everyone else back to the castle, and various other duties. His helmet under his right arm, Zammy passed citizens with a frown on his face, though he managed to offer a friendly smile when greeted by those on the street.
One of these citizens, Mrs Jerenia Sandler, called to him as he walked past her market stall. Zammy who was barely aware he'd walked into the market on his travels, blinked in surprise at Mrs. Sandler, then smiled as he recognised her.
"Care for a free apple, Mr General sir?" she offered, suddenly looking bashful after calling to such an important person. Zammy felt sympathetic and took the offered apple, handing over a note of Roosland Dollars anyway, and said,
"Thank you, Mrs. Sandler."
Mrs. Sandler looked a bit taken aback, and asked in surprise,
"You know my name?" Zammy, who had just taken a bite out of his newly acquired apple, answered with his mouth full,
"Of course, I try to remember as many names as I can. Especially those who offer me free things." Mrs. Sandler laughed in response, becoming a little more confident around the General. Confident enough, in fact, to ask a question.
"How did the debates go, sir?" Zammy sighed, having just swallowed his mouthful, and looked up at Mrs. Sandler in a fairly exhausted manner.
"Terribly. I'm really not much of a politician, I'm afraid. I suppose you've heard the Act went forward anyway?" Mrs. Sandler nodded, looking very sympathetic and sad for Zammy.
"It can't be helped, I suppose. Besides, until King Roos comes back, we won't be taking any genuine action."
Zammy said with a shrug, finishing off his apple with another couple of bites while Mrs. Sandler asked,
"Where is Our Highness anyway? If you don't mind my asking..." Zammy pulled a face as he threw the apple core skillfully into a bin a fair few feet away. He wasn't sure how to put this, or who he should say it to... then an idea popped into his head. He didn't know why, but he didn't think anyone could question it either.
"He's visiting family." How little Zammy knew...
Mrs. Sandler looked fairly downcast at this news, saying,
"So things seem pretty bleak right now?" Zammy shook his head almost indignantly, frowning at Mrs. Sandler. Things were never bleak on Roosland.
"Don't worry, Mrs. Sandler. I have a plan."
Back up at Castle Comealot, Zammy sent out a transmission for Xarius to come to his conference room- a fairly well ornamented, velvet carpetted, posh looking room of the castle, where Zammy had a wooden desk between his chair and whoever his guest was, with a large gilted rectangle window behind his chair so he could look outside, offering a fantastic view of the Eastern Quarter of Roosopolis. Looking out of this window now, Zammy wondered what course of action he would take.
He had already thought up a number of options, but he thought that if he should talk to anyone about this, it would be Xarius. Since Carniku was currently away helping a fugitive escape,
Way to go giving us a good image, Carniku... he mentally muttered, and Roos was... well, Zammy had no idea, Xarius was the only official of the Roosland Three left. That was what Zammy had dubbed the super-powered population of Roosland- only three. Still, these three included the King, and his Count and Duke, whom he wouldn't give up. Ever. Zammy frowned, his hands behind his back, imagining Xarius' advice.
His white military helmet catching the sunlight, and Zammy's eye, he decided that Xarius would probably suggest war. or a violent act of protest at least. Something unneccessarily bloody. Then again, he might've changed since his recent disappearance- another thing Zammy must remember for their discussion.
Carniku would attempt for peace, Zammy thought, but violence would be close behind. But he at least would be concerned of the unpowered population on Roosland, and so would Xarius- neither would suggest fighting on Roosland soil. But if they take the fight to them, Zammy didn't think they could win, not with their minimal army.
Of course, this is assuming it comes to war. Zammy personally hoped he was taking Roos' own course of action; try everything before a fight. Roos wouldn't want even the tiniest bomb falling on Roosland, or anyone with hostile intentions coming here, but he wouldn't want to hurt people who were just afraid of what he could do either.
Truly a conundrum. Either way, Zammy looked out to the sun, wondering about his own solution, and whether it was feasible.
