Garin didn't purposely avoid Gage the day before the finals, but between fighting vikings all morning, training all afternoon, and spending the rest of the evening relaxing and mentally preparing for the next days match, he couldn't find time to sociallize.
The time he could have spent giving Gage a phone call, he instead spent talking to his wife, who was eager to hear about what happened in his semifinals match. Her excitement was evident in her energetic voice, and he could hear the kids cheering and parading around the living room in the background. She got off the phone briefly to tell them to stop jumping on the couches before returning her attention to her husband. They talked for hours while Garin kept his eyes peeled on the tapes of Gage's matches.
Earlier that day, he locked himself in the Training Room and let no one in, not even the maid. He took out his laptop, a box of tools he borrowed from the hotel maintenance crew, and tore apart an Electric-Stim massage machine. An hour later his fingers were hooked up to electric nodes, ready to receive a dangerous dose of electricity far beyond what the "untinkered" machine was supposed to deal out. He stepped up to the control panel, which started a gentle current flowing through his body. Gradually, he increased the current and voltage, utilizing his Infiltrator Endurance to adapt to the sensation. He wanted to be prepared for Gage's ability to control electricity, which could make it difficult for him to utilize any physical attack strategy. His body learned to work around the current, and his learned control over his body saved him when his heart skipped beats.
Garin knew that this training was only stage one of the process. During the battle, a shock from Gage would be sudden and unexpected, so Garin had to be ready for it at any time. He adjusted a few of the settings in the program, which made the flow of current more explosive and intermitant, which would replicate what Garin expect to face during the match. He winced in pain the first few times, but eventually he learned to anticipate the situation. Reinforcing his body with a simple ki shield further dampened the effects.
Then he felt an uncontrollable churning in his core. "Perhaps I trained too long? The elctricity must have screwed something up." The churning continued, and it took him awhile to realize he had indeed trained too long. Looking at the clock he realized it was getting close to dinner time, and the feeling was coming from his empty stomach.
