Character Statistics
Name: Yuri Orlaiv
Other Aliases: "X" - an alias given to him by the Juins during the "Dragon Orb" incident (described in the History section)
Age: 27 (although only 24 of which were spent alive)
Species: Human
Face Claim: Cloud Strife, FFVII:AC.
Height: 6'2''
Weight: 189 lbs.
Eyes: Vivid blue, almost a teal
Hair: Although before his death, Yuri's hair was jet-black, the emotional and physical trials in the Otherworld have drained the dark colors out of his hair, leaving behind nothing. Upon returning to the mortal realm, his hair began to gain some color back - this time blonde, instead of the previous black. During times where he expends a lot of energy, however, the color bleeds away again, revealing colorless white-grey strands.
Aura Color: His aura has no inherent color, instead appearing much the same as the air around a flickering flame - clear, rippling, and visible to a focused eye, but invisible at a distance.
Description: See here and here for reference. Yuri's appearace doesn't differentiate from this, except for minor differences in the silver decorations surrounding his armor. (Think more tribal.)
Personality: Although Yuri still seems distant and aloof, it is mostly due to his death that he underwent a somber transformation in his indvidual psyche. His mood has darkened considerably, offering even fewer words during conversation than before, instead keeping up the "strong, but silent" stereotype. This has less to do with his general attitude towards those around him; rather, due to the emotional and physical changes he's gone through over the three years he's spent in the Otherworld. Further compounding the problem, Yuri's limited memory plagues him endlessly, causing him to constantly retreat into himself - in the process, creating a veil of secrecy about himself that "shields" himself from the world around.
Even as silent as he is, however, he still maintains a lot of the same values he used to. He will do what he thinks is right when he is able, even if his sense of right and wrong is often covered by the haze of confusion in his life. His emotions are still easily stirred, but he's long since learned to keep his anger in check now - quick to act, but quicker to think, he's always analyzing his next move even as his fist charges towards someone's face. Many opponents have been caught off-guard by his ability to quickly and seamlessly adapt to situations.
Previously in life, acting impatiently has sometimes caused him to live in a sense of regret, constantly looking back on what has happened and wishing he had taken the time to do things differently. Now, mostly due to his ability to control his anger, he's learned to control how situations play out so that he no longer is weighed down by current actions - simply haunted by the ones he's already committed...
Moral Alignment: Good, although this is sometimes a grey area.
Weapons and Equipment: Carried on his back, each in their own individual strapped locations, Yuri's equipped with six different, yet unmistakeably dangerous weapons. Though they themselves have no magical properties themselves, they are made of a stronger metallic alloy, thanks mostly in part to Juin intelligence, to make them battle-hardened and able to be used against even the most skillfully powerful of opponents. As such, they are, for the most part, sturdy enough to withstand extreme punishment.
The six swords are as follows:
-Two serrated long blades, roughly 2 1/2 feet in length, and somewhat thick. Used mainly in tandem.
-Greatsword, roughly 3 1/2 to 4 feet long, and almost a full 2 feet wide. (Somewhat similar to Cloud's classic "Buster Sword")
-A smaller, yet only slightly less wide claymore, roughly 3 to 3 1/2 feet long, and about a solid 1 foot wide. Also much thicker, roughly 5 to 6 inches at its thickest point.
-A long, thin katana, extending to almost a full 4 1/2 feet long, his longest sword. A classic samurai weapon.
-A shorter, albeit effective tachi, just over 2 feet long, often used as a complement the katana's length and speed by covering its weaknesses with its own strengths.
Special Skills: Proficient at analyzing situations, and thinking on his feet. Exceptionally quick.
Character Background
Relationship Status: Single
Family: Unknown; since he lost many of his memories, he can't remember.
Place Of Birth: Earth
History: It is currently unknown how, or why, Yuri came to Eden. Due mostly to his memory loss, he cannot remember anything except for bits and pieces of what he refers to as the "Dragon Orb" incident in Juin. While hunting one of the Dragon Orbs, his body was brutally destroyed in a grenade explosion by the Juins as they defended their rightful prize, and subsequently disposed of. Thanks mostly in part to his abilities, his body was enveloped in shadows as it floated out to sea, and was finally found almost three years later underwater by some stray Juin civilians. Using the latest in Juin technology, one of the civilians - a young woman by the name of Kira - managed to bring him back to life, although the costs of leaving the Otherworld early were grave, and he came back to life as a fragment of who he previously was...
Techniques
Basic Abilities
-Flight
-Ability to create energy fields
-Teleportation
-Sense energy levels
-Telepathy
Advanced Abilities
Advanced Energy Control - By focusing on a specific energy wavelength, Yuri has the ability to "immerse" himself in that energy and make it his own, giving him not only the basic techniques of that energy (such as making a ki beam, firing a thunderbolt, etc.), but a few key abilities for that specific energy, as well. One, by becoming part of that energy, he gains the ability to absorb that specific energy - whether it be ki, or an elemental energy, or anything born of an energy wavelength. Secondly, energy that he either cannot or chooses not to absorb, he can force control onto it, manipulating it in such a way that it can become partly like his own - for example, turning a ki blast directed at him back at its user. Also, with concentration, Yuri can dissolve an energy frequency to where it splits apart and becomes inherently useless, or disrupt it in a way that it ceases to function. He commonly uses this when an opponent relies too heavily on energy; by distorting the wavelength the opponent projects his energy on, he can force his opponent to use much more energy to overpower the disruption, or dissolve minor blasts almost instantly.
Arcanum - Much the same as "telekinesis", Yuri has the ability to manipulate the energy in the physical realm, giving him the ability to create a wavelength of energy much like what humans would consider to be telekinesis, or TK. A couple key differences, however; unlike telekinesis, Arcanum has no foreseeable limits to the mind - it can lift things as light as a feather or as heavy as an entire building with little effort, although more time must be used for larger objects. Furthermore, this wavelength, as it exists outside of his body, takes none of his own energy to perform - by utilizing the energy around him located in the wavelength, and by changing various forms of energy to channel into that wavelength, he can effectively keep a constant wall of telekinetic force around himself - if he had the focus and concentration to keep it up, that is. The technique can be used both offensively and defensively, both to great effects, with the only catch being that energy of some kind must be present in the area to achieve this effect.
Nitrosis - Yuri's one and only transformation, Nitrosis isn't by technicality a set transformation, so much as an ability that allows him to channel an incredible amount of energy from the surrounding area into himself and boost his power level exponentially in an almost instantaneous amount of time for a short period. Doing so has the tendency to exhaust him slightly when he returns to normal, but the effect can be achieved more than once throughout a battle with little harm to himself aside from physical and mental exhaustion. It is, however, treated as a transformation in the sense that when it's used, his aura suddenly turns an opaque white and begins to glow fiercely, and his power can potentially skyrocket in level. Though it is more powerful than the transformations of many other warriors, its downfall is that it cannot be maintained for long.
Black and White - Having lost the ability to manipulate the shadows around him, Yuri has instead learned to focus on the darkness inside himself. With intense focus, he can physically split himself into two separate beings of energy - one of pure light, and one of pure darkness. The two "copies" of himself have the same abilities and strengths of his physical body, but suffer from a few flaws. Neither of them can use Nitrosis, as the exponential rising of two separate parts of his body could result in killing himself. Also, the split itself only lasts for a limited time, as the mind cannot last long being split in two distinct halves. Probably the greatest of flaws, however, is the inherent split in morality - the black half focuses mainly on killing and destruction, regardless of the situation, while the white half is merciful and forgiving, often playing the role of defense. In the same sense that Yuri cannot often sort through the confusion of his own mind, his split halves live in complete opposite sides of the spectrum - he is the grey to their black and white.
Moment's Respite - Having been on the edge of life and death for years, Yuri's sense of time and space has been warped and changed to the point where it's literally a part of him now. As such, Yuri can reach into the twisting nethers of the Otherworld and either slow time down or freeze it entirely for a brief moment in time. Depending on the degree of manipulation, the effect can last anywhere from a few seconds (freezing) to several more (slowing).
Ultimate Abilities
Awakening - "Death - the last sleep? No, it is the final awakening..."
Yuri's most potent ability spawns from the depths of the Otherworld itself, summoning a horde of spirits to fight with him for a limited time. The ritual required to summon the spirits requires a certain amount of his blood; the larger the army, the more blood is required to complete the ritual. Yuri often accompanies this ritual by drawing bloodied designs on the ground, both to protect his soul as it rips a hole through the veil between life and death, as well as to strengthen the control he has over the spirits he summons, although it is not required of him to do so.
The summoned spirits maintain their own fighting potential from when they were mortal, operating under a wide variety of abilities from all sorts of walks of life. Yuri has no control over this, as the summoning ritual only brings forth spirits willing to come, not necessarily what he needs, though using blood in the summoning gives him greater control of choice.
Because of the loss of blood and energy, however, Yuri is left severely weakened after the summoning, and must rest to heal.
