A lonely widow sat watching her afternoon soap opera, knitting a cap for her grandchild. As she turned to glance at the toddler playing with his truck on the floor, her eyes passed by the portrait of a young major. He was such a handsome man, such soft features. A tear came to her eye as memories of summer evenings under stars came to mind. She missed them all the time he was gone to war. He was still gone, and she still missed them. Fifty-two years you've been gone now, Tom. I'd very much like to see you again, but still have some things to take care of here She looked down at the toddler again, he crashed his truck into a table leg. So be patient. Please.
Her soap opera was suddenly interrupted by an intruding news reporter. "This is George Donalds, for GBC News. Master General Sigurd, commander over all Allied forces has called a surprise press conference with an important message to give to the world. Aside from the current state of the war, we are not quite sure on what he is going to speak on, but he's about to make his statement. Let's listen in."
She changed the channel, but it, too, was covering the press conference, as was every other major channel. As she turned the TV off, billions of others around the globe tuned in. The Master General walked up to the podium and rested his papers down.
"I thank you, Ladies and Gentlemen, for coming out to this unscheduled conference today. I have much to say this afternoon and would appreciate it if you held back your questions until after I am finished making my presentation, at which point you will be invited to ask questions. As of 400hrs local standard time this morning, the Juin main fleet was seen sailing at high cruising speed northward into international waters." a general gasp rose up from the press in the room, followed by a rumble of conversations among reporters. The Master General attempted to quiet them, and they complied within a few moments. "We cannot confirm where they are going at the moment, as relations are difficult to maintain with an isolationist nation. However, we suspect that they may be heading for the Guld of Hernan and the nation of Mangels.
"The state of the war against Mangels, we admit, is not good. Yesterday, the Allied Forces suffered a major defeat at the battle of Saleen in Celena. Fighting is slow moving and brutal in Trent, where forces are battling crest to crest and cave to cave. Some advances have been made in Hilde, but we admit that supplies are running short. We cannot confirm whether the Juins are coming to support Allied forces or not, but as a precautionary move, we are withdrawing all forces from all fronts to assume a defensive posture.
"Additionally, I have this to say. In recent years, we have been witness to a number of extraordinary acts by some extraordinary people. We have seen battles in which men have weilded amazing powers. We would like to issue an appeal now to these men, to come to our aid in this terrible war. Only your powers can put an end to this. Please, we need your help and hope this message somehow gets out to you. We ask that any volunteers please report to me, Master General Gram Sigurd, at the Main Allied HQ, currently based in New Hardland, Generica. We are begging for your help.
I am now open to any questions the media might have for me."
The press immediately began barraging him with questions as the world watched, paralyzed with the news that the Juins were on the move.
