Impossible. They said it was impossible.
Kymeto and neighboring towns were nothing more than a pile of rubble for nearly two years. Many within the country of Raverita wanted to just leave the sprawling desolation be and move on with their lives. He didn't. It was soon declared that the city would be rebuilt, and so it began. There had been a minor setback involving a hurricane and a crazed man in a tux, but he was dead set on fixing the mess he made. And so it was declared that all that had been destroyed during the day long war would be repaired within two years.
For making that comment, Vice President Kasumi Hashimoto was made a laughing stock of her country, and the whole world.
Her statements were first spoken, in private, by the Saiyan known as Gokan Bushino. He stood by his statements, and so did she. The warrior stated that he would have the city rebuilt in two years, and he meant what he said. He labored tirelessly, sometimes spending weeks on end moving debris on his own. A few construction companies were involved as well, but the hard work was down by the Saiyan Deviant. And to the surprise of the world, ten towns and cities were cleared of their mess in three months.
That event signaled a mass exodus of construction companies towards the expansive worksite. Millions who were once unemployed flocked to plots of land that were once their homes and places of business, aiming to rebuild with what little skills they had and countless blueprints of every building that had been damaged or destroyed. With an army by his side, the former monk made an even more outrageous claim to the evening news.
Everything would be rebuilt in a year.
It was deemed to be an impossible feat, even with the masses helping. As always, he set out to prove his detractors wrong. As expected, they would have to eat their words.
Eleven months later and countless 20 hour days worked, their job was done. From Sentenlay to Elko and to the nation's capital of Kymeto, each town and city were restored to a livable condition. Granted, everything wasn't 100% complete, but they were finished to the point where people could actually move in and resume something of a normal life. The local government was first to move in, piling in their various buildings as they set out to establish local emergency services. Of course, many were rushing to these newly opened positions after long stretches of mediocre work and unemployment.
In due time, cities were opened to the public. Homes and vehicles were either given away or sold for dirt cheap, simply as a means to get people to re-establish their bearings. The economy of the country had been hit hard by the unfortunate invasion brought on by Bartel Beal and his dealings with the alien antagonizer known as Lugen Tenkuro. Bushino had lived up to his word and received his inital praise. Conversations quickly devolved into tirades about it being his fault, of course. Critics exclaimed that such events had occurred all over the world in recent events, it's just that Raverita suffered the most extreme damage.
They were right of course. The only other situation that even came remotely close to the devastation wrought in the county was the massacre at the last martial arts tournament. And it seemed that entire thing put such an event on hiatus. There hadn't been once since those blackened creatures destroyed everything in sight and prompted an attempt at either registering or rounding up any and all enhanced person on the planet.
That legislation failed, the one responsible for a potential war still on the loose.
The taste of that entire situation still burned the tongues of people in the world. They hadn't forgotten, and it just gave people one more reason to stare down the Deviant Saiyan if and when they recognized him.
As a matter of fact, Gokan stood on top of a skyscraper, the International Trade Center building to be exact, his eyes peering downward as he scanned over the vast city of Kymeto. From the streets below, the place looked almost identical as it did in the past, but the height blessed the Saiyan Deviant with another perspective, one that allowed him to reflect on the scarring and pain this city had undergone. Citizens would remember it, some would dwell on it. He couldn't blame them one bit. They lost friends, family, and their livelihood.
His eyes narrowed, the warrior pulled his hood over his head before shoving his naked hands into the pockets of his zipped hoodie before taking a step off of the massive structure, rapidly descending to the ground. Sure, he could fly, but there was something refreshing about a freefall. He'd be able to use those precious few seconds to clear his mind and reflect on the past year.
And count his blessings that nothing happened during the same period.
