The Walk

Screwing the lid back onto the bottle of water, Carniku wondered why he was stuck in a forest of all places. Slipping the bottle back into his backpack, he shouldered the pack so it was more comfortable before beginning the walk.
He was following his father's old tradition when it came to martial arts training, walking into the middle of nowhere to try and gain 'inspiration from nature'. Which was all well and good when your style was 'SKULL' kung fu, what he learned was based on... well, lightning. Fun fact, Eden may have a screwed up ecology but it didn't have lightning strike that much. Well, unless there was some supernatural battle going on. In which case you saw it a lot. And atomic blasts. And skeletons rising to fight the living. And extreme wat- OK, getting lost in thought, point being, this was not the best way for him to learn.
He stumbled over a root and flailed wildly as he fell, landing in a crash at the ground. Groaning, he got to his feet again, dusting off his jeans. He could've flown but that was against the point. Only do what a normal student could do if you gave them a back-pack and a handgun to defend against monsters. Dragging himself forward, Carniku suddenly noticed the sound of water trickling down. Approaching the noise, he found a small stream flowing into a fairly large lake. Which was odd... since he didn't think he was near a lake.
Well, being lost was part of the adventure.
The stream was falling from quite a height, and it looked like there could be civilisation at the top. It'd take only a few seconds to fly to the top, and for a normal human to do it, that'd be just... crazy! It'd never happen, not in a million years.
Which was why he now obviously HAD to do it
Stretching his legs, he rolled his shoulders and took a few deep breaths. After a quick crouch, he leapt and grabbed the closest rocks that'd work for hand-holds. Swinging his legs up, he pushed off of the rock again shooting up a few more feet and quickly switching into a sequence of kicks and grabs to scramble up the rock face. Having to plan ahead was hard, the rocks were unevenly spaced and he'd had to alter his plans multiple times, the worst being right near the top. Misjudging a leap, he ended up flailing for a few moments before snatching his fingers into a small crack. He winced at the strain before pressing his trainers against the rock face
"OK... OK, how high am I?"
A quick glance said 130 feet
"I'm high. Very high. Stoners only WISH... mkay, time for the push"
Tensing his fingers, Carniku felt the grip on his trainers strain as he raised himself a few extra inches and with a quick swipe, grabbed another handhold. Which was better than previous. Bringing his knee up to his chin, he managed to slip his toes into the fingerhold crack and with one last push leapt to the overhang that seemed near the settlement. Swinging slightly he kicked off of the wall and flipped onto his back, lying on the grass, he breathed heavily and watched the sky moving
"Wow. That was really dumb" sitting up with a painful stomach crunch, he looked at the village he'd seen. Wooden shacks on top of logs held by chains. A floating village? Over a waterfall? That just seems... dangerous.
And exactly the kind of place he'd find another Super Human.
Getting to his feet, he began dawdling towards the floating village.
