Two weeks had passed since Tai Lieng's fateful encounter with Captain Generica. He was now a full fledged member of the Hero Force and was given his first mission. It was a treasure hunt of sorts, but it was quickly turning into a wild goose chase. Li felt like he was on the right track, but not getting any closer. But he understood that something as valuable as a Dragon Orb was never going to be easy to find.
Before taking on the mission, Li had never heard of a Dragon orb before. He learned that there was not just one, but five on the planet, and if one were to bring them all together, he could summon the Eternal Dragon, who would grant him whatever he desired. The Hero Force had been working hard to gather them and keep them in Generic control, but had succeeded in only finding one--only to have it stolen from them.
As he followed the trail of clues, Li discovered that theft was a common theme with the orb. No one knew who the initial thief was, but somehow the orb wound up in the hands of a bankrupt pawn shop dealer named Nobuo. Nobuo was then robbed by a local gang, who in turn were mugged by even tougher characters. After a brief altercation, Li also got some information from the gang about a Saiyan named Zahuro, who the gang last saw heading off to search for the men who robbed them. Li felt he was getting warmer.
The next day, Tai Lieng headed into the wilderness. Hovering above the tree line, Li scanned the forest toward the mountains for anything out of the ordinary. Saiyans were well known for leaving behind paths of destruction, and before long, Zahuro's trail revealed itself to Li. The first clue he noticed was a large circular break in the trees. Flying closer, Li confirmed it was a blast crater. He smiled and looked around for another clue. A collection of smaller craters and long lines of shattered stumps told Li there was definitely a fight here. He recreated the battle in his mind, dancing through the devastation. Eventually, he discovered the scrapped carcass of an android, its head blown off by a close range blast. The traces of Saiyan boot steps in the area grew calmer and the path appeared to be heading towards the mountains.
It was getting dark, and Li knew he should probably get some back-up before continuing, but his excitement goaded him to go forward. Zahuro's trail led him to an icy cliff and the entrance to a secret cave. The left over traces of footsteps in the mud at the opening and down the corridor gave Li some important starting clues to what had happened here. Zahuro had walked in and crawled out. The absence of any newer prints than the Saiyan's told Li that Zahuro must have won, but there was no telling if he had the orb or not. Venturing inside, guided by the light of a few Orbitals, Li discovered the ruins of the secret lab and more scrapped androids. Then suddenly, Li saw something that made him jump back in fear, yelling words he didn't know he knew.
In the corner of the lab was a headless corpse, pale and blue, its limbs and fingers contorted in strange positions, lying a pool of dark, frozen blood. Li couldn't move. He shuddered, paralyzed by fear. This was his first time ever encountering the grim aftermath of deadly violence. It was sick. He had to get out of here. Li spun around and ran furiously back out the door. The end of the tunnel seemed to be receding before his eyes, no matter how fast he ran. Time moved in slow motion.
It wasn't until he fell out into the open air that he realized he was being followed by a few extra orbitals. Apparently in his panic he had thrown some more behind him, frightened that the corpse might be chasing him. Stumbling to his feet, Li went airborne, flying higher and faster than he ever had in his life. He passed the craters. He passed the forest. And he passed Nobuo's town. He didn't stop until he reached the Capital, and even then, it was only because he didn't have the energy to continue.
