Before long, Tong Lieng and Carniku were en route for the Central Continent. This time, Tong Lieng was far better prepared than the first time they stumbled into the ghost town. They flew into the desert in what equated to a luxurious flying RV. The Order flew them in with a support team of six, including a pilot, mechanic, cook, and medic. They obviously wanted both men operating at full power. Rather than his usual heavy duty khakis and workwear, Lieng sported a gi made of much lighter material, and he was more mentally prepared to fight-- if need be. Yet somehow, deep inside, he was still hoping they wouldn't have to. Along the way, Lieng took the opportunity to ask Carniku about his experience at the World's Martial Arts Tournament, and he came to realize even more that this desert demon wasn't the one that they were looking for. Still, money was money, and the monastery needed it. Furthermore, the Committee wouldn't take no for an answer. And lastly, Lieng's curiousity towards the demon got the best of him. So they had no choice but to go.
They flew in under cover of night. As they got closer to the ghost town, they turned off all lights and dropped their altitude, because they wanted to approach undetected for as long as possible. Then, rather than make immediate entry, they landed and rested for the night, with the four crewmen taking turns at night watch so the two warriors could sleep. Even though Lieng's anxiety made it difficult, he finally drifted off. While he was restlessly dreaming, he slipped into a vision.
He was in a dark alley when he was suddenly attacked. Angry men poured in from all sides, running in from the streets on either side of the alley, or dropping down from fire escapes. Somehow, Lieng had gotten hold of a staff, and he was quickly dispatching each opponent. Then finally, a woman in a white dress, with fair skin, dark hair and red lips appeared behind him. He stretched out his hand and fired a ki blast straight at her core, but it seemed to melt harmlessly into her. Half-bluffing, half-ready to give her a good whack of his bo staff, he warned her that she should get out of there before he hurt her. "Don't hurt him," she said. Lieng was confused, "Don't hurt him?" He turned around to look where the woman was apparently looking past him. He could apparently feel that there was someone around the corner of the threshhold of the alley, but he couldn't see anyone from where he was standing. He turned around to look at the woman again, but she was gone, and he woke up.[/i]
He didn't tell anyone about the dream, but inside, he wondered if it had something to do with what they were about to do that day.
The two men rose early in the morning at about sunrise and floated slowly towards the ghost town. Everything was deathly quiet. They reached the edge of town, and there was no sign of any life. He couldn't even sense anything. But perhaps that's what uneased him the most-- the deep feeling of emptiness. It felt almost painful, like some inward pressure was compelling him to implode. The feeling increased the closer they walked towards the center of town, until finally, they heard a voice, "I thought I told you never to return."
Lieng looked over to where the voice came from, but there was no one there. He decided to reply, "I know. But I have questions for you."
The voice echoed back, "You look more like you're dressed for a fight."
"Considering our encounter last time. I was just worried. But we didn't come for a fight."
Then the voice groaned, "WHY CAN'T YOU JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!?"
"Tell us what you know about the World Martial Arts Tournament."
"I don't know anything-- LEAVE ME ALONE!"
"Did your demons attack the stadium?"
There was no verbal reply. The voice was through dealing with these intruders. Orange devils ambushed them from empty buildings.
"Well, Carniku, here we go!" yelled Lieng, "Don't forget what I told you about how sticky these devils are. Be careful!"
Lieng threw out five orbitals, which formed a pyramidal crystalline shield around the two of them. The devils kamikazied straight into the shield, exploding into it. The five weak orbitals likewise exploded from the shock. Ten more devils quickly flew in, five on Lieng, and five on Carniku.
(OOC: Go ahead and deal with these and any other attackers as you see fit.)
