In the deepest regions of space, beings exist that no other have ever come in contact with. These creatures are of many different types, forums and lifestyles but none are the same as the Ki Sprites. These creatures are small clouds of energy, who were created from the excess energy of previous life forms that were born. All beings are created with equal ki abilities but only certain one’s bodies can contain these powers, the others’ excess Ki energy is released to float through the endless voids of space until they collide with other energies, which in some case create a Ki Sprite.
Traveling in groups, like a nomadic tribe, these beings travel the universe from planet to planet in order to learn more about not only the inhabitants but themselves. Sadly, this race can not be seen by any other race, nor can they contact or be detected by races with physical bodies. In searching the galaxy, this race has been trying to figure out a way to take form or contact these other races. Even though they are a somewhat powerful race who seem to have an everlasting lifetime, they are unable to share what they know or join in the grand scheme of life, sticking only to their own.
This is the story of a young sprite who was able to defy the odds and change the rules. As the traveling group of ki sprites passed through a particular galaxy, one of the younger sprites, born just a couple years ago, went to a lonely planet called Eden. This planet was diverse with many different creatures of great powers. The young sprite passed through the planet, looking over the life forms that inhabited it until he had come across a somewhat primitive house, located on a small island just North of the great Central Continent.
As he passed over the house he could hear what sounded like pleas or cries for help. The sprite flew down into the house to find a young, human, boy lying in bed, tears rolling down his eyes as his parents stood by his side, crying as well.
“I’ll be fine, I’m just really tired tonight.” The young man said to his grieving parents. His father came up and placed his hand on the young man’s shoulder. “I know son, you’re such a strong young man. Your mother and I are just so worried about you and your condition. You could go at any time and we are looking desperately for a cure, we just wish there was more time.”
Sitting up, the boy pushed his father back. “I’ll be fine, if you guys got to bed at a decent hour ONE NIGHT, I won’t go away. I just wish you two could get a decent night’s sleep in for once, you’ve been up almost all night long, every night for a year now, since I got this disease.” He gave a smile which seemed to lighten up his mother’s worried look a bit. “I just want you guys to get one good night sleep.”
“I suppose he’s right dear.” His mother finally spoke up after quietly standing in the back of the room. “Let’s get to bed tonight, he’s a strong man, you said so yourself. We can check on him first thing in the morning.” She bent over and kissed him on the forehead. “Goodnight Kraven, we love you.”
After his father kissed his forehead as well, the two turned and left the room, leaving the boy alone. The young sprite closed in on the boy and hovered beside his bed. “I’m sorry mom and dad, I had to get you out of the room. I knew this would be the last night you could possibly have a good, full night of rest. I didn’t want you two to watch me pass away in front of your eyes. The fact is, tonight is my last night as I can feel my life slipping away.” All of a sudden, his eyes shifted to his side, startling the young sprite into moving backward a few feet.
“What are you?” Kraven spoke out. The young sprite was baffled, “is he talking to me?” it thought. “Yes, I’m talking to you.” Kraven replied to the sprite’s accidental response. “No one’s ever been able to see me before. How can you?” Suddenly, the sprite could sense the young man’s life slipping away as looks of pain rolled over his face.
The sprite felt compassion for this human boy, seeing as how he knew he was about to die and she sent his parents away so as to not further upset them. It wish that it could help the boy but he hadn’t a clue what to do, that is until he remembered a technique he had seen on a visit to another planet, one that allowed for two beings to join as long as they both agreed. “I may know of a way to help you, but you must agree to allow me to join with you.”
The man’s fists clenched to his sheets tightly as he painfully looked over toward the sprite. “What do y-you mean by jo-in?” His breathing was hard, it was clear to see that he was fighting death back as he spoke, holding onto this new hope that was placed in front of him. “I have learned a technique that will allow for you and I to become one. I will transfer my energy into your body and we no longer will be you or I, but one entity. Typically the two keep their memories but become a joined life.” He paused and floated over the boy’s head. “I have never tried it myself because I have never been able to contact another being to get acceptance, so to be honest, I don’t know exactly what will happen with the fact that I have no body, I’d imagine there would be no physical changes just mostly you taking my life force to fill where yours is fading.”
Kraven closed his eyes and his breathing seemed to slow before stopping completely. Seconds passed before the sprite could hear a small muttering from the boy’s lips. “I’ll agree as long as we both agree that to my parent’s we will not be aware of this. I don’t want them to hurt anymore. You said we’ll keep our memories, so if that’s true then we’ll remember that promise.”
“Agreed.” The sprite said, but it could feel the boy’s life fading fast. “I’m going to do this now, before it’s too late.” Concentrating, the small sprite began to glow with an intense, bright, white light. He directed his energy at the boy, who began to grow a dark, red aura around him. Suddenly, the sprite’s energy body began pouring into the boy’s chest and with a final moan of pain, everything went silent and the boy lay in bed, montionlessly…
