~During Invasion~
While the battle for Eden was raging, in the darker parts of the city a wholly different struggle was occurring. Shock troopers raced down winding city pathways, threading between buildings, following the shadow. They fired rapidly, sending streams of energy smashing into buildings, raising a cacophony in the streets but accomplishing little, their opponent slipped away from each blast, almost as if he knew it were coming.
Finally, the alleyway straightened out into a two man wide corridor. The five assault troopers poured through, filled with the lust of the hunt, knowing their enemy was running out of room. Little did the troopers know they were rushing to their own death. In only an instant, they would become the prey that they had sought.
The troopers first detected impending doom when an enormous explosion ripped through the alleyway behind them, vaporizing the last trooper and sending tons of rubble scoring down into the streets. This created a canyon in which the troopers were trapped. An instant after the plastic explosives detonated; there was a slight flash as a high velocity rifle bullet blasted into the brainpan of the front trooper, sending him reeling in a spray of gore, but not putting him down.
One trooper blasted upward, taking the initiative to grab the high ground. He got about 15 feet into the air when a net of glowing green energy closed around him, and sent him slamming back down into the pavement. Again, a barrage of fire lanced at the dark figure, which promptly disappeared from view. By now, they were on high alert. Their scanners managed to pick up their target, but by then it was two late. From the chest of the rearmost standing trooper, who was just regaining his footing, a glowing green blade of energy suddenly sprouted, and thing gave an almost gentle sigh as the blade raised upward and shredded it’s eternal organs. The trooper pitched forward into this three remaining comrades before sinking into the street.
The troopers formed a tight group. They were not to be intimidated, thanks to their hive-like mind, but this opponent was dangerous. Before them stood a man, clothed in all black, with battle armor darker than the deepest night. In his hands there was a longish metal cylinder, from which a glowing green blade of energy silently radiated. Instantly realizing that ranged attacks would be useless, the troopers fired up their buster blades and moved in, a compact wall of powerful strikes.
No trickery this time, as the dark warrior sprinted forward to meet them. The lead trooper swung his red blade in a powerful uppercut sweep, but an equally powerful crashing blow from the light lance met it and deflect, sending the troopers blade wide and interfering with the soldier on his right. The third soldier struck down in a cleave blow, attempting to slice of the fighter’s leg, but his blade two was intercepted when, with a snap-hiss, the lance project a second blade, catching the red cleaver.
The troopers jumped back in surprise, none of the various latent warriors they had fought had managed to fight off their coordinated blade assaults. Little did they know, they were fighting an infiltrator. The group’s second assault was more strategic, one trooper dove low, and a horizontal slash at the man’s ankles, while his brethren protected him by sending a mid level thrust. The warrior reacted, leaping over sweep and catching the thrust with his own blade. The third trooper had faded back and now sent his blade in an upward sweep that was going to sever the dark warrior’s elbow, had it landed. Suddenly, the man became a veritable arsenal of blades, emerging from his wrists, his elbows, his shoulder, his knees, seemingly everywhere. He caught the cleaver with an elbow blade, and momentarily released his two handed grip on his staff long enough to slash the dumbfounded trooper across the throat with the dagger like wrist projections.
While the trooper reeled, clutching its neck, the warrior turned his attention back to the surviving pair. The sweeper was still rolling back to his feet, so the warrior lunged forward to attack his standing partner before they could team up again. The shock trooper put up a brace defense, a whirling cut, but clearly he was outmatched. The infiltrator’s movements were efficient, a powerful spinning slice that knocked the buster blade aside, then a quick reverse stab, piercing the thing’s chest. As it was driven back, he yanked his blade free and whipped the other end around in a tight arc, cleaving it’s head from it’s body and ensuring the kill.
The last trooper, back on his feet was fast approaching blade point out. Just before it reached the warrior, the blades on his elbows shoulders suddenly flew free, spinning like boomerangs and taking the unfortunate soldier completely by surprise, slicing him up into neat pieces that the fighter simply sidestepped as they splattered the pavement.
[glow=maroon,7,400]”Is this the bet you’ve got!”[/glow] the warrior yelled at no one and he followed it with the sadistic laugh as the pleasure of another successful mission surged through his body.
The soldier with the slit throat, however, wasn’t quite finished. It struggled to its feet behind the warrior and raised it’s buster cannon, a powerful shot charged in the meantime. The Juin reacted incredibly fast, spinning and throwing it’s fist forward as if to punch the trooper from across the ally. The red wave surged toward the infiltrator, but was met by a smashing golden beam that flew from his fist. The beams locked and struggled, but eventually, the infiltrator’s won out, pushing the beams slowly back towards the luckless trooper.
From above the dark street turned cage, a huge blast could be seen as the bodies of the soldiers were vaporized. If anyone had been watching a dark shadow flew out from the explosion, blending in to the dark rain and disappearing into the night. The warrior spoke into his throat come, sub-vocalizing the words, [glow=maroon,7,400]”10 squads distracted, 100 individuals terminated. Mission complete. Confirmation on fund transfer?”[/glow] The mercenary paused a moment and pushed aside his glove, looking at a glowing wristband and watching a dull blue screen light up. [glow=maroon,7,400]”Confirmation received, contract terminated. Pleasure doing business with you.”[/glow]
The former infiltrator picked his way carefully through the city, avoiding the death squads. After all, he made it a policy to fight only when there was a profit to be had, and he had no intentions of being killed to free this pointless city from those who had taken it.
