"Carlos!!!! Carlos!!! Get your lazy ass out of bed right now!!!!!"
The feminine plea was useless however, as the newly crowned eighteen year old Carlos Nemsia had been awake since dawn. It was a nice Saturday morning, so nice in fact that his mother wanted her high school graduate to go out for once and experience life instead of locking himself within the confines of his bed room, staying sound asleep until a good 11 AM. The young man did not want his mother to find out what he was doing, to find out he was awake this entire time, so he played it off. Forcing his feet to become heavy, Carlos dragged himself across the maroon carpet, collapsing his hand on to the doorknob. And in a sheepish fashion, the young man pulled the door open, calling to his parent downstairs. "Uhhggg, I'm awake mom......" he muttered softly as he noticed his mother heading towards the stairs before rubbing his eyes, "Can I go back to sleep now?"
"No! Wake up, eat breakfast, and go somewhere! You just graduated, you should be out with your friends getting drunk and picking up promiscuous girls!!!!" The teenager groaned from his mothers comment, and shuffled his way downstairs. Being an only child, the house was too quiet, especially since Carlos' father died. Things have been pretty tough since then, but they managed to pull through. Fortunately enough, the eighteen year old found a new job. A great job. After today, his mom won't have to worry about making payments. She won't have to worry about wondering how she's going to buy food for dinner when she needs the money to pay the power bill. Life will no longer be a problem. Never again. Finishing his breakfast, Carlos quickly retreated to his bedroom and tossed on some blue jeans and a white t-shirt. After this, the young man grabbed his backpack and his keys off of his dresser and departed in his blue four door sedan.
Music thundered from the speakers of the car with the radio's volume near its maximum. The bass pumping shook the car and echoed for what seemed like blocks. Carlos paid no real attention to the music. He was nervous about his job. The teen was getting into a tough line of business, and right now, he started to second guess his choice. Thoughts of turning around and heading back home or skipping off to the arcade coursed through his brain multiple times, but each time he thought about it or another alternative, he couldn't help but think about his mother. He was doing this for her, so he couldn't be selfish. He promised himself that he would get his mother out of her tough financial situation, and with that on mind, he focused and continued on his way.
A good ten minutes later, Carlos pulled in front of a bus stop. Standing there was a girl, no older than thirteen years old. She was very petite, decked out in a light blue sun dress and a denim jacket, carrying a fairly large duffel bag. From her grip on the bag, one could tell that whatever the bag held within it, it was quite heavy. Glancing over to the young woman, Carlos flicked a switch on his door, unlocking all four doors of the car. The teenage girl nodded to her elder teen before opening the passenger side door and entering the vehicle with little haste. "What's your name?" Carlos didn't even make eye contact with the female when he asked, which was quite odd. But the real question was, why would he pick up a person who he didn't know? For all he knew, this teenage girl was a prostitute and a pimp could come from the shadows and assault him.
"Sally," She replied in a light voice, "Sally Po."
"What's your job?"
"Same as yours." Going by the tone of Sally's voice, it was evident that, unlike Carlos, she was not nervous in the least about their job. In fact, it seemed as if she anticipated it, embraced it even. She sounded like this was the thing she wanted to do with her life, like it was the last thing she wanted to accomplish before she died. Once you started to think about it, it was kind of creepy in an obsessive kind of way. "Do you know where we're going?"
"Downtown," The young man quickly replied, sucking in some air before exhaling slowly. "We do have three more people to pick up, so I guess we should be on our way." Pulling away from the bus stop, Carlos continues to drive. The volume on the radio was turned down to allow conversation, but between the two, not a word was spoken. Outside of a random song that the duo didn't even like and the hum of the engine, it was silent. Dead silent. Being two people going into the same job, they should have plenty to discuss. They were also two teenagers, with Carlo being Sally's elder. Anything she may want to talk about, Carlos has probably already experienced it. Dialog about dating should be at its peak right now. Alas, nothing occurred. The remaining three stops were made, and oddly enough, all three people were waiting at a bus stop, and all three were carrying some type of bag, gripping it as if something heavy was inside.
In short order, the sedan made its way tot he downtown portion of the city. Glancing around, Carlos spotted a fast food restaurant and quickly pulled into its parking lot. The four doors of the car opened up, allowing the five people to exit. And then, the four he picked up separated, going off in various directions. That was very strange. They didn't even say anything to each other as they departed. It was an oddity, sure, but it wasn't anything that alarmed random passers by as they went on with their business. Tossing the backpack over his shoulder, the teenager strolled into the Biggie Burger restaurant. The place was packed, people were waiting patiently, and impatiently, in line, waiting for their order to be received. A good five to ten minutes later, it was finally time for Carlos to make his order. After deciding on a Biggie Burger value meal, he stood by the counter and waited for his food for two minutes before crouching down to reach into his bag.
"I shall heed thy will my lord in Heaven......" The randomness of the quote basically brought the place to a halt. Calos revealing a chrome Beretta 9mm handgun quickly rose thing to a panic. His hand shaking, the teenager let off a shot, striking the cashier in the shoulder. The female screamed in agony as she dropped to the ground in pain. People all around dropped whatever they were holding and took off running, but it was all but useless. Many of them were attempting to flee out one door, basically rendering them cannon fodder. Round after round was released from the semi-automatic into the bodies of the panicked pedestrians. Man, woman, child, it really didn't matter. Sadly, those that actually succeeded in escaping the building were gunned down outside. Sally Po was crouched behind a bullet ridden minivan parked in the middle of the street, steadying a suppressed AK-74u.
Strutting from Biggie Burger, Carlos allowed the sounds of chaotic gunfire ring in his ears. If you paid attention, you would be able to tell that hundreds, if not thousands of shots were fired all throughout the city as if it were a warzone. No, this wasn't a isolated incident. This was a full blown terrorist attack. Ejecting the spent magazine, Carlos quickly reloaded the weapon as survivors of the initial attack started to regroup. One man brandishing a broke piece of wood attempted to sneak up on the young teen. With a well placed strike, Carlos fell and accidentially pulled the trigger on his gun, releasing another shot that lodged into the throat of a four year old girl, who dropped down, immediately choking on her own blood.
"You bastard!!!" The man cried out, raising the splintered wood over his head, preparing to bash the skull in on the teenager. Unfortunately for him, his head essentially exploded from a well placed sniper round. Sighing, the young man rose to his feet, eying the blood bath he and his four companions had created. Hundreds of people lay dead, dying, or injured in the streets, and they could hear the emergency sirens echoing off of police and paramedic vehicles. Discarding their weapons, the moved throughout the block, focusing on buildings that were highly populated, many of which had not been attacked. Instead of moving like the others, Carlos dropped to his knees with his hands interlocked, rocking back and forth. And then, dozens of squad cars rolled into the area, with police helicopters overing in the sky. SWAT trucks were next to arrive on scene, and all personnel were puzzled by the sight of the young man drawing pentagrams in the blood of his victims.
"Stay down!!!!" An officer cried out, "And the rest of you, don't move! You're all under arrest!!!!!!"
"I shall heed they will my lord in Heaven....." As the police neared, the chant increased in volume, and was echoed throughout by the other four in the area. All over the communication channels, it was said that the very same chant was coming from everyone involved in these random attacks. Three officers, aiming their Glock .45's at the young man, moved in closer. Shooting his eyes up at the approaching three, he smeared the blood all over his face before slowly raising to his feet.
"Get on the ground now!!!!!" The cops exclaimed, getting ready to fire. Carlos pointed at the three, shaking his head from side to side.
"In the name of God, impure souls of the living shall be banished into eternal damnation. Amen." Picoseconds. That's all it took for a horrible situation to turn worse. Gurgled screams rolled throughout the area as death swept through the form of a unforgiving fiery ball of destruction. Explosions, dozens, hundreds, all simultaneous, rocking Elko to its core. Survivors, witnesses, news crews hovering above, none of whom had seen anything like this ever in their lives. None of which ever expected such a thing to occur with little to no signs. None of them ever expected such a thing to happen here in their own city, to their own businesses, to their friends, family, associates. People were worried for their family not with them. People were worried that their agony would be prolonged. People were worried that they would lose everything. Worst of all, people didn't know how to react, they didn't know what to say.
They were speechless.
