Lieng rose to his hands and knees as the sand surged towards him. He turned his head to watch the oncoming wave, but there was no look of panic on his face-- only calm. The sand washed over him, covering him completely. He could feel it begin to squeeze, but he was unconcerned; Karius's attack had actually allowed him a moment's rest. Encased in deep sand, he was safe from the Bits.
While his body was still in pain, his mind was fully sharp. During the time that he was laying on the ground, his mind was fighting the pain away, and he was thankful for Karius's mercy. It had bought him time to get control of himself, and when the wave washed over him, he formed a dual-layered bubble around himself. One layer was produced by his chi, and the second layer was his telekinesis resisting the force outwardly. Meanwhile, the tremendous pressure of the sand acting against his mental barrier felt like one massive headache. He sat on the floor and quickly massaged his ankle, focusing his chi into it just like he was taught back at the monastery. Lieng had never learned true healing like he had wanted to, but the massage would at least get him through the battle. The rest of his body was throbbing, but he felt like a few cuts and scratches weren't enough to make him quit.
"Alright," he thought to himself, "I'm ready again." Lieng was never much of a showman. Rather than blow the sand away in dramatic fashion, he simply teleported out.
Knowing that Karius could make his Bits appear at will, he knew that trying to attack them directly was futile. What he would need instead was a strong defense. As soon as he reappeared, he focused as much power as he could between his fingers and threw them outward. Ten more orbitals, similar to the one's he threw out earlier, scattered around him. But unlike before, when they orbited around his whole body, their formations were closer, orbiting around individual limbs. If it was going to rain anima, he figured it was better to have a raincoat than an umbrella.
In less than a second, he was on the attack again. Lieng's style of attack had become much like Neojiisu's: controlled chaos. The presence of his orbitals made Stealth useless as an evasion technique, but it was still effective at throwing off range and timing. Lieng was using the Strobe style made famous by Indigo in the World Martial Arts Tournament, making his body appear and disappear constantly to throw off his opponents' depth perception. At the same time, he would vary the range of his attacks to constantly keep Karius off-guard. Lieng's Shadow Boxer technique added an extra dimension of power, because he didn't even need to be in physical striking range.
The monk dashed forward in front of both of his opponents. Sand flew everywhere, and a deep void was left in his wake. Again, he was not one for flashy charges and long-telegraphed attacks. When he dashed, he made sure to stop and set himself firmly in front of Karius. His body still strobing, he used a compound attack, lifting his leg to throw a shadow knee towards one Karius's chin, and then shooting his same leg straight outwards to catch the second Karius with a front kick. Once this leg came down from the kick, it set the base for a front roundhouse kick with his other leg, aimed at the Karius that he threw the shadow knee at. This was followed by a straight side kick by the same leg to the gut of the second Karius. The smooth transitions from kick to kick displayed Lieng's tremendous balance, augmented by his telekinetic power, even with an injured ankle.
It wouldn't be long before the two guardians realized that Lieng was only attacking with his legs, but with his Crystalline Shield protecting him, he didn't need his arms to guard. Then again, they were guarding, but not in the traditional sense. During the first series of kicks, Lieng had formed another set of quick orbitals between his fingers, and these, too, were now beginning to orbit him in close formation. Now, Lieng's hands were at chest level, his hands cupped, his fingertips touching, forming a circle against his chest. While Lieng continued his kicking attacks, white energy began to glow in the space between his hands. To this point in the battle, Lieng had used finger-formed orbitals: a quick and temporary solution. He knew that this battle would require a more mature defense. One-by-one, the orbitals spun to life in his hands, but he would wait until they were finished to release them.
