(OOC: I know that there's another thread that everyone's joining in to register for the tournament, but in this case, I'm comfortable making my own thread and doing my own thing. Hope this doesn't inconvenience anyone.)
Amidst all the chaos and noise that the tournament was creating, Yuri stood calmly, eyes carefully scanning the bulletin board in front of him.
Yeah, right, he thought to himself, snorting absently. Tournaments were seldom honorable, even if it was required. People came to win, and many were willing to do whatever it took to win. Whatever it took.
On the other hand, if he joined, and won, he could introduce himself to everyone interested without having to go through the monotonous talking and mingling. Certainly a plus, given the fact that his courage for talking to other people had waned after the battle with Bryce and Bruce.
Even so, the recent battle he was in certainly raised his strength. As much of a cliche it was to say it, he felt like a new man. If he was lucky, and he worked at it, he'd even have a few surprises for his opponents. He'd have to practice them, though. He got the ideas for the techniques while he was resting after the battle, and immediately set down to practice them.
He was a long way off from actually using them efficiently, however; it frustrated him to admit that he hadn't perfected something, especially a fighting technique. As an ex-bounty hunter, he was almost required to be able to pick up techniques on the fly to suit the situation. The fact that he lost his touch was the most frustrating of all.
He'd thought about going back into the business, but from the looks of the planet, there wasn't really much call for one. Maybe in the near future, there'd be something available that'd suit his tastes, but for now, he'd just have to settle with being rusty.
Maybe this tournament would be a good idea after all, though. At the very least, it'd let me push my limits a little bit more. Shake the rust off my technique.
The battle with Bryce and Bruce only reinforced the fact that he was sorely out of shape in terms of battling. He'd wasted almost all of his energy on an attack that wasn't even needed, after all. And the attacks he did land, he used too much energy, and wasted what he had.
He'd have to focus a lot if he was going to have any chance of winning the tournament.
Maybe he did have a chance after all, though.
"Excuse me." Yuri stared coolly at the man behind the registration table.
The man looked up and smiled, albeit somewhat forcibly, given Yuri's serious tone of voice. "Can I help you?"
"I'd like to participate in the tournament."
"Name?"
"Yuri."
"Last name?"
"Orlaiv."
The man's pen rushed across the application form in front of him as they talked. "Have you entered a tournament before?"
"No." Yuri kept his face impassive as he talked, his mind off in another place as he answered the questions systematically.
"Do you have any weapons that need to be checked?"
"No."
"Mmm...alright, you're set, Mr. Orlaiv. The brackets will be announced sometime soon, so keep an eye out for them, and good luck."
"Thanks," Yuri stated in return, although more for consideration than anything else, and walked away from the booth without a second glance.
I only hope that I'm not the only honorable fighter in this tournament.
