Tong Lieng opened the front gate of the Monastery, taking a moment to stop and look in before entering the courtyard. It was so quiet now; no laughter-- no children. A few people were walking here and there, and in the background he could even hear hammering from the re-construction. But otherwise, silence.
Lieng had returned from Juin by himself. Loneliness was gnawing at him from the inside out.
Neojiisu had made the sudden decision to leave Eden completely, and Indigo had decided to go with him. After so many years of being away from home, Neojiisu realized that there was something he needed to do: he needed to see his family. When he left, he was young, brash, and foolish; he thought he wanted to rule the world-- then he found out all he really wanted was love and someone to care for him. It was time to close a wound that had been left open for far too long; except it wasn't his-- it was his family's. He could still picture his mother's tearful expression as he shut the hatch door of his ship and took off into space. He could still hear her desperately banging her fist against the metal hull, futilely trying to get him to change his mind. All he did was laugh and hit the ignition. Now, it was time to make things right.
Lieng wondered where he should go from here. Somehow, the prospect of relocating to one of the smaller monasteries didn't appeal to him, and yet it didn't feel like there was anything left for him here either. His friends were gone; his mentor was dead. He felt empty, and yet he couldn't figure out what was missing. Perhaps he had gotten too used to adventure.
Or perhaps it was her. "No," he thought,"that couldn't be it./i] He and Noelle had barely met; how was it that he missed her so much? Then again, when he first saw her, he was instantly struck by her beauty, and he found himself inexplicably drawn in. He couldn't help but want to know more about her. Neojiisu nudged him about it once, but he shrugged it off. Unfortunately for him though, he didn't have the benefit of Neojiisu's orange skin to hide his blushing. Naturally, it made Neojiisu goad him on even more. He missed her. He wished that she was here to help him sort through his thoughts.
There were so many thoughts. Where was Mei Huang? How could he make up for all that was lost? Would Carniku really forgive him for all that had happend on Roosland? Everyone he knew and loved was gone. Thinking about it made him restless. He knew he needed to do something with his life, and it didn't involve staying here.
He made his way to his room and dropped into bed, only to get out a second later. "Forget this. I'm outta here," he said. What came next was the fastest shower and change of clothes the world had ever seen. As he prepared to fly off into the night sky, he looked up to the stars. "If Neo can make a new start, then so can I."
