Tong Lieng sat before the Council of Sages to give a report on his efforts recovering the President's diamond. He started from the ambush in Generica and continued through the flight to Albandia. He told them about the fight in the port town and getting picked up by two bikers. Then he moved on to flying into Master Pluto's fortress and the desperate chase out of it. Finally, he told them about the devils in the deserted town, and the mysterious Grim Reaper that led them. They seemed to sense a deeper interest in Tong Lieng towards the Reaper than was normal.
"What is it, Tong Lieng? What do you suspect?"
"I don't think that he's a demon. I swear I saw tears in his eyes."
One of the Sages adjusted his position in his seat and reached for a remote control under the panel table. He pointed it at a television on the wall, "I want you to watch this, it's been on the news all week."
On the screen, Lieng watched the mass destruction that finished that year's World's Martial Arts Tournament. The Sage muted the report and continued his comments, "Witnesses reported an army of powerful demons. The attack here is similar to the one reported a few years ago on that small desert town. We suspect that it's the same ones."
"I doubt it."
"And why is that?"
"I fought these demons first hand. They didn't use energy unless we threw it at them first. And these were orange. The ones those witnesses reported were black."
"An excellent observation, Tong Lieng. Even so, we've been contracted by the government to play a part in solving this by confronting the desert devil, who they-- unlike you-- might either be responsible for the attack or know something about it."
"Since when do we take contracts like this?"
"The Martial Arts Tournament is a world event, and the entire world is mourning. So we agreed to help, and we're sending you."
"Very well. I'll rest up quickly and then leave immediately. Wait-- am I going alone?"
"You're the only one strong enough to do it. But we foresaw you asking that question, and the international committee is currently finding someone."
"Generica again?"
"He's already engaged on a mission of his own for his government. Besides, based on what you told us about him, he might be world famous, but that doesn't make him strong. Don't worry, we'll find someone. Just rest for now."
